We have some disturbing news to relay to our members. We wanted each of you to be the first to know about an unprecedented decision made by our Officers and Board of Directors late last week.
Based on the COVID-19 pandemic and the recommendations regarding its containment by Federal, State, and Health Authorities, the KVAL Board of Directors made the decision to cancel the 2020 Northern Illinois Art Show (NIAS). As you know, this year’s show would have been our 49th Annual Show.
Never has the Northern Illinois Art Show been canceled during those past 48 years, but this year is like no other we have experienced. The Northern Illinois Art Show is KVAL’s June Pride, its showcase and primary fundraiser. The funds we obtain from hosting the NIAS allowed us to finance demonstrating artists, Ellwood House Summer Fest, the Affordable Art Sale and the Holiday Arts and Craft Market.
Although we have a CD fund set aside for this very purpose, it will still be a year with tight purse strings and maybe some revisions to our typical activities. However, we will survive this and strive to offer quality programs to you, our members, and the community.
Now we must spring into action to notify all our vendors, refund all of their entry money and notify county, city, community officials, and local police of the cancellation.
In light of the NIAS cancellation we have also cancelled the General Meetings for May and June of this year. Remember that in July we do not have a meeting due to the 4th of July. So, at this point our next General Monthly meeting will be held in August. Hopefully we will be able to meet as a group by then, but we can't say for certain.
Continue to stay safe, stay at home, and wash those hands. We will keep you posted on any other changes regarding KVAL.
